Obama Overtime Rule Defeated Again
9/1/2017

BATON ROUGE, LA – Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry is applauding a U.S. District Judge for affirming that the Obama Administration overreached in pushing the U.S. Department of Labor’s overtime rule on the American people.

“The U.S. Constitution, like our state constitution, is clear that the Executive Branch cannot make or change law,” said General Landry. “This court decision affirms that truth, and I applaud Judge Mazzant for finding the Obama Overtime Rule invalid.”

Last year, General Landry joined 20 states in actively opposing the overtime rule – which would have had a direct and negative impact on the education, retail, government, health, hospitality, and professional service industries in Louisiana. In October, the U.S. District Court in East Texas ruled in favor of the Landry coalition – granting a preliminary injunction against the rule. That decision was later appealed; and, yesterday, it was affirmed and dismissed.

“My office remains dedicated to defending states’ rights and protecting the hardworking people of Louisiana from federal overreach,” added General Landry.
We will continue to do all we legally can to fight job-killing regulations and protect Louisiana workers and their employers.”
