AG Jeff Landry Leads Partnership to Get Drug Take Back Boxes in Monroe and Ruston
MONROE, LA – Continuing his efforts to fight the opioid epidemic sweeping across the State, Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry today announced locations in Monroe and Ruston for people to bring unused or expired prescription drugs.
General Landry has teamed with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana, the National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators, Ouachita Parish Sheriff Jay Russell’s Office, and Lincoln Parish Sheriff Mike Stone’s Office to make these Drug Take Back Boxes available to the public.
"I am grateful for the leadership of Sheriffs Russell and Stone as we work to tackle the opioid epidemic in Louisiana," said General Landry. "By utilizing these drug take back boxes, we can and we will make our homes and our communities safer."
Citizens in the Monroe, West Monroe, and Ruston areas may begin dropping off their unused or expired prescriptions at the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office (400 St. John Street, Monroe, LA 71201) and the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office (161 Road Camp Road, Ruston, LA 71270).
"We are proud that through our partnership with Attorney General Jeff Landry’s office and local law enforcement agencies, we are able to give more Northeast Louisiana residents access to secure drug disposal boxes," said Michael Tipton, head of Community Relations for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana and president of the Blue Cross Foundation. "Giving residents in this area a safe, anonymous way to get rid of their unused or expired prescription drugs can prevent abuse or theft and lower risks."
"We appreciate the efforts of Attorney General Jeff Landry to secure a Drug Take Back Box for Ouachita Parish," said Sheriff Russell. "Residents now have access to a safe disposal site for unused or expired prescription drugs that ensures proper disposal."
"The Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office would like to thank Attorney General Jeff Landry for his assistance in helping us acquire a drug take back box," said Sheriff Stone. "This box will provide our citizens a local, secure, and environmentally friendly location to dispose of unused or expired drugs. We encourage all of the residents of Ruston to utilize this convenient service in an effort to rid their households of unneeded medicines."
