Student Loans to be Forgiven for Totally and Permanently Disabled Veterans

AG Jeff Landry Praises Trump Administration for Helping Vets and their Families

BATON ROUGE, LA – Mere weeks after
petitioning the U.S. Department of Education to automatically forgive the student loans of veterans who became totally and permanently disabled in connection with their military service, Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry today praised the Trump Administration for taking action to do just that.

In a presidential memorandum signed this afternoon, President Donald Trump moved to eliminate unnecessary paperwork burdens and ensure that all eligible disabled veterans can receive automatic discharges. The move could bring an average of $30,000 in financial relief to more than 25,000 qualifying veterans.

“Once again, the Trump Administration has heeded the calls of state attorneys general and delivered great results for America’s veterans,” said Landry. “I am grateful for President Trump’s willingness to consider and accept our bipartisan pleas to better protect those who once protected our Nation.”
